St George Illawarra Dragons winger Brett Morris is eager to continue the positive momentum against the Brisbane Broncos at WIN Stadium, Wollongong on Friday.
The NSW Blues State of Origin representative is hoping to play in front of a large home crowd in their first Wollongong game of the season since their loss in the Charity Shield match.
The 27-year-old is confident the Red V can get the win and is particularly impressed by the performance of Gerard Beale who will be running out against his former teammates.
“I am really looking forward to running out into WIN Stadium on Friday, obviously a lot of the boys are from this area so we really enjoy playing at home in Wollongong,” said Morris.
“Hopefully we get a big crowd out there, it’s our first game down here for the season and we’re hoping for nice weather and we get some fans through the gates.
“The conditions are going to be pretty wet out there; we’ve had a fair bit of rain this past week and the forecasts have said we’re in for a bit of a shower, I think we’re going to be in for a tough one.
“We took a lot of confidence out of our win against the Sharks; our defense during the back end of that game was very good, they were coming home strong and we were able to keep them out.
“The guys took a fair bit of confidence out of that and we’re prepared for that to happen again on Friday.
“Ben Barba is one to watch on Friday; he’s a very dangerous player and we’re going to have to be on our toes around him.
“The Broncos have a wonderful side, they’ve won a few games this year and they have a fair bit of confidence; we have to be on our guard against them.
“I’ll be going out there to do my best for the team and get the win with the boys; if I can get another try like the one against the Sharks then it will just be a bonus.
“Obviously winning games brings confidence and we enjoy training a lot more when we’re getting those wins; the boys want to keep that feeling so we’ll be working hard to get a win in front of our home fans.
“We were pretty confident heading into this season, we had a great preseason and I don’t think our preseason results displayed that but we knew what we had to work on to get where we are now.
“I think the Broncos are a similar side to ours; they’ve been doing well in these opening rounds and a lot of people wrote both of us off at the start of the season.
“Gerard Beale has had a great impact on the squad playing on that outside edge, he trained there all off season and he’s been doing really well; we’ve been working on our combinations and hopefully we can keep that going.
“He’s a confident kid and his defense has been good so far, coming back from a knee reconstruction he would’ve been a little bit hesitant but he’s growing into his position and he’s playing some good footy.”
