Green: Room For Improvement
St George Illawarra Dragons centre hopeful Nathan Green scored a hat-trick on the wing when the Red-and-Whites overcame the Illawarra Cutters and the Mudgee Dragons at WIN Jubilee Oval, Kogarah on Friday.
The Renown United junior is enthusiastic about several teammates’ on-field performances and says the team is focused on linking up with those who are vying for a position in the halves.
The 21-year-old is positive about the new combinations that were forming under game conditions but observes that there is still room for growth in both on-field partnerships and defence.
“It’s always good to go in for a few tries but it all comes down to our attack and how it looks out there,” said Green.
“Leeson Ah Mau, Dylan Farrell and Josh Dugan were all looking pretty sharp out there.
“Our main goal for these trials is to link with our new halves; we’ve worked hard during preseason with Gareth Widdop, Sam Williams, Josh Drinkwater and Michael Witt.
“They are looking pretty good and our combinations are starting to come together and we could see that out there.
“This game showed that there are still plenty of areas that can be improved; we had three errors when we started the game, we can’t have that when we’re looking to complete our sets and get to the kick.
“There is room for improvement in our defence, if we want to go far in this competition we need a top defence and can win games with their defence.
“My goal for 2014 is to play as many first-grade games as I can; hopefully we can make the semis and I’m hoping I can contribute more to the side this year than I have in the past.”
