The NRL released on Wednesday the 2014 Telstra Premiership schedule which sees the St George Illawarra Dragons commence their 2014 campaign with Sunday afternoon football against Wests Tigers at ANZ Stadium, Olympic Park on Sunday, March 9.
The schedule includes key Dragons games as some of the biggest events of the NRL season, and its release coincides with the launch of the 2014 Red V Membership program.
The Dragons will host a number of blockbuster home games in the early part of the season including:
An opening round game against Wests Tigers at ANZ Stadium, Olympic Park on a Sunday afternoon
A feature Heritage Round match against the South Sydney Rabbitohs at the Sydney Cricket Ground in Round 5
The traditional ANZAC Day clash against the Sydney Roosters at Allianz Stadium, Moore Park in Round 8
A Sunday afternoon match up against the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs at ANZ Stadium, Olympic Park in Round 9.
The Dragons will also play four home games at WIN Stadium, Wollongong:
A Friday night clash against the Brisbane Broncos in Round 4
The local derby against the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks on a Saturday night in Round 13
The Dragons taking on the Melbourne Storm in Round 16
A clash with the Penrith Panthers and the return of Jamie Soward in Round 22
The Dragons will also play four home games at WIN Jubilee Oval, Kogarah:
A Saturday evening clash with the New Zealand Warriors in Round 7
The Dragons taking on the North Queensland Cowboys on a Saturday in Round 17
The Dragons taking on the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles in Round 19
A clash against the Gold Coast Titans in Round 24
The release of the NRL draw is always an exciting time for everyone associated with the game; including our Red V Members, Corporate Partners, players and all stakeholders, said Dragons CEO Peter Doust.
"The draw is a very complex and complicated process and we are pleased to have been provided with a number of marquee matches that will feature prominently in the NRL calendar, and with venue availability taken into consideration we have been able to deliver a balanced split of games across our venues
NRL Head of Football Todd Greenberg added that Members were a priority in the deliberation of the NRL Draw.
Ensuring that Members can plan around when their team is playing has remained a key priority, said NRL Head of Football Todd Greenberg.
This is a draw that has been built around fans and building major events in major stadiums while retaining traditional venues.
Red V Members will have more choice than ever before, with the opportunity to choose from a range of flexible ticketing packages with access to 4, 8, 10, 12 and 14 game packages, including the opportunity to take advantage of reciprocal access to away games against both the Rabbitohs and Tigers at ANZ Stadium, Olympic Park.
Full details of the 2014 Red V Membership program will be released at 1pm this afternoon and existing Members will have until Wednesday, January 8 to renew and retain their existing seats, while all Members can take advantage of the Dragons Rolling Payment Plan and pay their membership in equal monthly instalments.
"Today's draw release has even greater significance for Dragons Members and fans as we officially launch our 2014 Red V Membership program and provide our Members with all the necessary information to plan their 2014 season, said Dragons CEO Peter Doust.
"We know that Dragons supporters have been eagerly awaiting the launch of our Red V Membership program, which has been delayed due to the unique circumstances surrounding the finalisation of the Right Game Right Venue strategy with the NRL, and the subsequent time requirements for Ticketek to build the package configurations into their system.
The Right Game Right Venue strategy has been implemented to ensure a platform for economic enhancement and growth capability, leading to long term financial sustainability.
We will always be committed to our region and our traditions; however we also want all our Members and fans to be able to see the biggest games of the year, and to receive increased benefits
We look forward to the ongoing support of our Members as our Red V program is so important to the sustainability of the Dragons and our continued investment in all Rugby League programs.
"Everyone at the Dragons, especially the players, are now very much looking forward to March 9th and the first game of the 2014 season against the Tigers on a Sunday afternoon at ANZ Stadium"
The NRL and Broadcast Partners Channel 9 and Fox Sports have agreed that the specific scheduling for the final six rounds of the 2014 season will occur later in the season.
