The St George Illawarra Dragons NYC team are well and truly into their pre-season as they prepare for the upcoming 2014 campaign.
The Young Dragons are presently training five times per week and focussing on increasing the fitness standards and mental toughness of the squad.
With a very young squad at their disposal, joint Head Coaches Ben Hornby and Dean Young see a great opportunity to create a culture within the playing group that will stand them in good stead as they progress to the senior playing ranks.
Players to impress early have been Jay Gallagher, a back-rower recruited from Glen Innes as part of the Clubs High Performance Unit they have in place within the area, Vincent Stowers, last seasons Player of the Year and Hayden McCrae, who played with Helensburgh last year in the Illawarra Coal Competition.
A number of the players within the squad underwent off season surgery and both Hornby and Young have been excited to see the likes of Euan Aitken, Drew Hutchinson, Shannon Crook and Hayden Carpenter beginning to return to training drills.
All will hopefully be available for the early season games.
With many of the players finishing school this year, they are on the lookout for work opportunities.
If any Red V Members or supporters need, or know, of any employers who have either long or short term work opportunities, the Clubs Education & Employment Officer Scott Stewart can be contacted at sstewart@dragons.com.au or on 0411 267 571
