The St George Illawarra Dragons have secured the long-term futures of Ryan and Toby Couchman, with the local juniors signing contract extensions that will keep them in the Red V until at least the end of the 2030 NRL season.
Previously contracted through 2027, the new deals represent another significant investment in quality, home-grown talent developed through the Dragons’ pathways system.
The 22-year-old twins have been part of the club system since they were teenagers and said they were proud to continue representing their local region.
“I love this club,” Ryan said.
“Toby and I grew up supporting the Dragons, and it means a lot to us to represent our local team. We’re stoked to show other young players coming through the region what is possible.
“It’s been a challenging season, but you can feel the energy and improvement across the club. We understand the responsibility we have as part of where this club is heading, and we are excited to play our role.”

Toby said the opportunity to remain a Dragon long-term was an easy decision.
“This is our home, so it’s unreal to be extending here,” Toby said.
“I believe strongly in what we are building under Dean Young, and we’re both excited about the opportunity to help push this club back towards where it belongs.
“We know there is plenty of hard work ahead of us, but that is something we want to be part of.”
Having spent their junior days with local powerhouse Thirroul, each embarked on their own journey towards a first-grade debut.
An Under 19s State of Origin representative in 2022, Toby was upgraded to an NRL deal ahead of the 2023 season kick-off and made his debut as a teenager in the side’s opener against the Titans at Kogarah.
Ryan, meanwhile, earned an Australian Schoolboys nod in 2021 whilst at Bulli High and was rewarded with an NRL debut in Round 23, 2023, against the Eels.
Over the coming seasons, the Dragons Academy graduates developed into integral members of the side’s forward pack, and both have pieced together career years in 2026.
Toby has appeared in all but one match, having averaged 142 run metres to go with 736 total tackles at close to 97 per cent efficiency.

Ryan, who suffered an ACL rupture in last year’s season opener, has averaged 130 run metres and tallied 653 tackles at 95.6 per cent efficiency in 15 appearances.
Head Coach Dean Young praised the duo for their work ethic and team-first mentality, whilst declaring that this is only the start for the local products.
“Ryan and Toby compete relentlessly. They're consistent, disciplined, and that's exactly what I value as a coach,” Young said.
“I know how much these men care about the club, and they'll play a huge role in helping us get to where we want to go.”
