NRLW: Dragons thumped in Newcastle

It proved a night to forget for the Red V who fell 38-0 to the Knights in their NRLW clash at McDonald Jones Stadium on Sunday.

Brooke Anderson claimed an early try for the Red V out of dummy-half but was ruled to have used a teammate as an illegal blocker.

Boosted by an incorrectly ruled ruck penalty, the Knights went within inches of drawing first blood through Mercedez Taulelei-Siala only for Kasey reh to pull off a tremendous try-saver.

They managed to cross 15 minutes in with Tenika Willison sending Georgia Roche over on a fifth-tackle raid.

Yasmin Meakes found another for the hosts off the back of a Sidney Taylor intercept despite Tahlia O’Brien pulling off a remarkable try-saver.

Meakes left the field for the Knights with an apparent knee issue, but they were able to nab another prior to half-time with Amelia Pasikala crashing over next to the sticks to make it 18-0.

The intermission did little to cool Newcastle off with Shanice Parker going over untouched in the right-hand corner to make the lead an imposing one.

Tiana Davison muscled her way over 54 minutes in – with the assistance of the goalpost padding – as Newcastle’s dominant evening continued.

Taylor continued her strong outing going over off a Parker inside ball to push the lead out to 32-0 before Taulelei-Siala was awarded a try as the clock wound down to put an exclamation point on the victory for Newcastle.
