The Dragons enjoyed the early ascendancy and managed to crack the Jets’ line with halfback Joseph O’Neill taking in a Nick Tsougranis offload and diving over. Tom Kirk added the extras to make it 6-0 just eight minutes in.
Strong charges courtesy of Luciano Leilua and Jacob Halangahu saw the Red V march straight back into Jets territory the following set.
It paved the way for Andrews to fly through, reel in an O’Neill bomb, and slam it down in the right corner for a terrific try on debut as the visitors moved out to a double-digit advantage.
Peckham-Harris went close to nabbing a third for the Dragons off a Lyhkan King-Togia grubber was the officials ruled a knock-on in the lead-up.
The Jets found a needed answer the next set as Taj Ford linked up with halves partner Riley Pollard to cut the deficit back to four.
Ford was placed on report soon after for a dangerous throw on Kirk handing the Dragons an opportunity on the attack.
King-Togia was able to poke his nose through and fashion an offload to a supporting Leilua who strolled over to put the ball down behind the posts and make it a double-digit difference once more.
The Jets managed a pair of key tries prior to the break with Morgan Harper getting the ball down off a fifth-tackle, short-side raid in the left corner to bring the home side back within four before Kristian Dixon went over off an unsuccessful short drop-out to put the hosts ahead by two.
A phenomenal Peckham-Harris dart from inside his own half paved the way for the Dragons to secure the second half’s opening points.
Jacob Webster took in a nice Grant delivery to crash over to the left of the sticks off the back of a damaging Jacob Halangahu carry.
The Jets manufactured a try entering the home stretch with Liam Ison coming through to take in a midfield bomb and spew it out the back and eventually onto Jaxon Lavender who dove over to put the hosts back on top.
Newtown took a step closer to victory with Harper finding his second of the afternoon in the left-hand corner before Pollard scored off an intercept as the siren sounded to seal it for the hosts.
