The St George Illawarra Dragons have signed rising star Halle Barrett to a deal which will see the teenager promoted to the club’s NRLW squad.
The deal will see Barrett join the squad on a development deal for the 2027 season before transitioning into the Top 24 the following year.
The daughter of club great Trent, Barrett has proven a standout coming through the grades having represented the Illawarra Steelers at Lisa Fiaola Cup and Tarsha Gale Cup level.
A Shellharbour Stingrays junior, Barrett has also represented the Under 17s NSW Country side on two occasions and was last year named an Australian Schoolgirls representative.
“I’ve grown up here and come through the system with Illawarra, so it’s really exciting to be continuing my journey here at the Dragons,” Barrett said.
“I’ve enjoyed my time in the Academy; I’ve learnt a lot from the staff and players here and built so many great relationships. I believe in the direction that we are on as a club and I’m looking forward to being a part of it over the coming years.”
“Halle has been so impressive since filtering into our Academy, and we’re excited to lock her down,” Head Coach Nathan Cross said.
“She has so many great qualities both on and off the field. She’s athletic, powerful, and extremely skilful but is also coachable and hard-working which is just as exciting. The club has invested a lot into our pathways system and the development of girls like Halle is a direct result of it. We believe that she has a massive future and we’re so pleased that it will be at this club.”
