Dragons secure Luke Metcalf through 2029

The St George Illawarra Dragons have secured the services of Luke Metcalf on a three-year deal from next season.

Metcalf will join the club from the Warriors and has agreed to terms through the end of the 2029 NRL season.

The 27-year-old playmaker will arrive at the Dragons after establishing himself as one of the competition’s most dangerous running halves with the Warriors, leading the Dally M voting last year before an ACL injury derailed his season.

An Orara Valley junior, Metcalf made his NRL debut with Cronulla before joining the Warriors, where his speed, ball-playing ability, and attacking instincts made him a constant threat.

Dragons Chief Executive Officer Tim Watsford said Metcalf’s signing was another important boost for the club.

“Luke is a player who brings creativity and confidence to our football program,” Watsford said.

“To be able to bring him into the club for the next three years is a significant outcome for us.

“He has shown he can influence games with the ball in hand, and we believe his best football is still in front of him. This is another important step in building a squad that supports our local talent with strategic additions, allowing the playing group to grow together and deliver the kind of football our members and fans want to see.”

“I’m really excited to be joining the Dragons and grateful for the opportunity. It’s a proud club with a huge supporter base... It will be an honour to pull on the Red V and do everything I can to help the club move forward.”

Metcalf said he was excited to join the Dragons and help the club on its path back towards the top of the NRL.

“I’m really excited to be joining the Dragons and grateful for the opportunity,” Metcalf said.

“It’s a proud club with a huge supporter base, and I’m looking forward to meeting the boys, getting to work and earning the respect of the players, staff and fans.

“I intend to give my all to the Warriors for the remainder of this season before taking the next step in my career. It will be an honour to pull on the Red V and do everything I can to help the club move forward.”

Metcalf joins recent signings Keaon Koloamatangi (2027-2031), Scott Drinkwater (2027-2029) and Phillip Sami (2027-2029), along with local juniors Hamish Stewart (current-2029) and Dylan Egan (current-2029), to be tied up through at least 2029 at the club.
