First points belonged to South Sydney a little less than 10 minutes in with centre Noah Waldock muscling his way over off a shift out right to make it 4-0.
The Dragons answered their next opportunity with the ball courtesy of captain Shadi Hammoud who showed and shoved his way over next to the sticks before converting his own try to give the visitors an early edge.Hammoud made it two tries in the space of two sets after Dextar Grant shot into the backfield out of dummy-half and handed the ball back inside to his supporting No.7 who strolled away to dive over under the posts.
An error the following set handed the Rabbitohs an opportunity to respond and they did exactly that with Devonte Vaotu’ua pouring through a hole off a well-run set play as the deficit dwindled back to two.
Max McCarthy was placed on report for a late shot on Ben Jackson gifting the Red V another opportunity on the attack.
Hammoud’s enormous opening forty continued off the back of it with the Dragons skipper coming off the right foot, dummying, poking his nose and finding an offload for a supporting Braith Plecas who dove over to extend the lead beyond a converted try.
The Dragons found another key try prior to the break with Connor Sadler steaming through a gap on a fifth-tackle run play and finding a pass back on the inside to Eden Hodges who went over.
Hammoud knocked over the extras to remain a perfect four-from-four with the boot.
The Rabbitohs needed to find the first points of the second period and they managed to do so with Samuel Taylor burrowing his way over after a quick play-the-ball left the Dragons line in tatters.
Undeterred, the Dragons marched back down the other end to notch their fifth try of day with Cooper Hale powering his way to the stripe to push the lead back out to 28-16.
With the match in the balance, it was the Dragons who found next points with Plecas slicing through off a nice Hammoud delivery, drawing the fullback, and rewarding big man Ben Jackson for his support play.
A South Sydney error off the next kick gifted the Dragons more possession and they obliged with fullback Lucas Borg slipping into space down the left-hand corridor and crafting a nice pass on the inside to Kye Andrews to score.
Hammoud added the extras to make it 40-16 the way of the Red V entering the home stretch.
David Afu crashed over for the Dragons as the siren sounded to put the cherry on top of a comprehensive win away from home.
