Dragons representative star Hannah Southwell has agreed to a contract extension with the club.
The deal will see the 27-year-old remain a Dragon until at least the end of the club’s 2027 NRLW campaign.
Southwell – who was a part of the club’s inaugural women’s squad back in 2018 – made her return to the Red V a year ago.
Her quality was on full display from the outset with the hard-hitting back-rower averaging 69 run metres and tallying 154 tackles at over 92 per cent efficiency in nine outings.
Now a veteran of 44 NRLW matches and five Origins, Southwell says she is thrilled to have secured her future with the club she debuted at.
“The squad’s heading in a great direction and I’ve got a lot of belief in what we’re building. I’m looking forward to getting back out there and doing my part to help push the club back to where it belongs.”
“I’m really excited to be back at the Dragons for the next two seasons,” Southwell said.
“I’ve loved coming back into the club and building strong relationships with the girls and staff. The squad’s heading in a great direction and I’ve got a lot of belief in what we’re building. I’m looking forward to getting back out there and doing my part to help push the club back to where it belongs.”
Head Coach Nathan Cross was excited to have locked Southwell down for another season describing her as one of the club’s strongest leaders.
“Extending Hannah was a no-brainer for us,” Cross said.
“She’s been terrific for us ever since coming back to the club 12 months ago. The girls here really respect her and look to her as a leader, and we value that a lot. Her quality as a player speaks for itself; she’s added another dimension to our forward pack and our squad as a whole. She will play a big role in what we are setting out to achieve over the coming years.”
