Nathan Cross appointed Harvey Norman Maroons head coach

The Queensland Rugby League is pleased to announce Nathan Cross as the new head coach of the Harvey Norman Queensland Maroons.

Proudly supported by Liquorland, Cross signed a 2-year deal for years 2026 and 2027, and will now step into the role following an impressive rise through Queensland’s pathways and representative programs.

Cross has a stacked resume of coaching experience across elite, semi-professional and community levels, and has been instrumental in developing Queensland’s next generation of players and coaches.

His work has spanned across the Queensland pathways and performance programs, Harvey Norman Maroons assistant coach, NRLW St George Illawarra Dragons head coach and multiple additional programs, where he has built a reputation for strong communication, attention to detail, and an emphasis on culture and connection.

“It’s an honour and a privilege to be appointed Head Coach of the Harvey Norman Queensland Maroons. I’m really excited to be back in this arena and working with such a talented group of players, many of whom I’ve coached previously.” Said Cross.

“I’m extremely grateful to the senior management and board of the QRL for providing me with this opportunity.

It’s an exciting challenge and a big responsibility to lead our great state. It’s something that I don’t take lightly.

QRL CEO, Ben Ikin said Cross’s appointment continues the organisation’s commitment to investing in talent, both on and off the field.

“Nathan has been a driving force behind our performance systems and pathways. He understands what it means to be a Queensland coach, to lead with humility and build belief.” Ikin said.

His work within the QRL over the past several years has been exceptional, and this is a natural progression for a coach of his quality and character.

Cross will now oversee Queensland’s preparation for the 2026 Women’s State of Origin Series, with the squad set to assemble for camp early next year.

“Our women’s program continues to strengthen every season, and Nathan’s leadership will ensure that momentum continues,” Ikin said.

“He’s deeply respected by our players and staff, and his appointment reflects the depth of coaching expertise within Queensland Rugby League.”
