Wollongong hosts MacKillop Girls Rugby League Pathway Development Day

Figtree's Collegians Sporting Complex today hosted the MacKillop Girls Rugby League Pathway Development Day for young rugby league players across the Illawarra.

120 local girls from Years 4 through 6 were in attendance developing their rugby league skills and being educated on different aspects of the sport.

Dragons NRLW star Ella Koster was on hand alongside Dragons Community members and NRL Game Development Officers to help the students sharpen their passing, tackling, and fitness as they move on to the next stage of their rugby league careers.

An exhibition MacKillop team will be selected from the Year 5 and 6 students able to compete in the tackle component of the day with those selected going on to be involved in a day development camp where they will play against the selected Polding representative team.

Koster, an Albion Park-Oak Flats Eagles junior who made her way through the Illawarra Steeler's pathways system, says it's important for her to be involved in these sorts of initiatives.

“It’s always awesome to be involved in these sorts of days,” Koster said.

“The Illawarra has such a strong history of producing great rugby league players, so these development days are exciting. It’s special to be here; it wasn’t that long ago that I was in a similar position to the girls here today. I’m really proud of the pathways set-up we have in this region and the girls today were amazing.”
