The Dragons would like to congratulate Trinity Tauaneai on her addition to the Kiwi Ferns squad for their Pacific Championships campaign.
Initially named in New Zealand’s wider squad for the tournament, the 18-year-old was today promoted into their main squad ahead of the side’s clash against the Jillaroos this Sunday afternoon at Eden Park.
Tauaneai this season made the leap up to the club’s Top 24 for the first time having captained Illawarra’s Tarsha Gale Cup side to a Preliminary Final earlier in the year.
Having grown up in Wellington and spent her junior days playing for the Wainuiomata Lions, Tauaneai moved across the ditch in 2023 to pursue her rugby league dream.
She made her NRLW debut in Round 1 this year and went on to make nine appearances averaging 71 run metres and making 166 tackles.
Tauaneai says she was surprised by the news, but humbled to receive the opportunity.
“I feel so blessed and grateful for this opportunity,” Tauaneai said.
“To not only get the chance to represent my family but possibly my country as well is amazing. I’m honestly so speechless; I don’t think it has sunk in yet, to be honest.”
