Illawarra ran out 26-6 victors to continue their unbeaten start to the season and remain atop the ladder through five outings.
It took just three minutes for the visitors to open their account through Brittany Constable who muscled her way over off the back of a sharp, right-side shift.
They extended their lead a quarter of the way in through fullback Tayleah Handcock who took in a timely Georgie Barrett offload and dummied her way to the stripe to make it a double-digit Steelers advantage.
Handcock backed her effort up just moments later slicing through the defence off an attacking scrum to nab her third and push the Steelers further ahead.
The Steelers' wave of momentum persisted with Kiara Kostovksi taking in a neat cut-out from rookie half Skye Spencer to go over in the southwestern corner and make it a 20-point contest.
St George were able to nab a needed try of their own a half-hour in with an Indiana Killick kick ricocheting wildly into the arms of a chasing Sharmay Brierley to score and cut the deficit back to 20-6 heading into the break.
Both teams showed some defensive resolve across the second stanza with Tiarna West managing the period's only try as the rampaging lock poured through a gap and showed tremendous athleticism to outpace the cover and dive over.
It proved the match's final say as the Steelers cruised to their fifth win on the trot.
