Dragons forward Tom Eisenhuth has announced his immediate retirement from rugby league.
The 32-year-old joined the Red V ahead of the 2024 NRL season, going on to play every match that year and earning the Immortals Award at the end of the season as the player decided by the coaching staff who consistently led standards both on and off the field.
Eisenhuth experienced lingering concussion symptoms after a head knock in the 2025 pre-season, with a recurrence of symptoms on his return to the field in Round 5 of the Knock On Effect NSW Cup.
After managing the symptoms through subsequent weeks, Eisenhuth has now made the decision to retire from playing.
“This is a health decision based on putting my family first,” Eisenhuth said.
“There’s a lot of life after football. I want to be able to make the most of that and spend that time with my family.
“I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the club, the coaching staff, all my teammates and everyone in rugby league who’s helped me out over the years.
Eisenhuth finishes his NRL career with 83 appearances for the Panthers, Storm and Dragons. His 2024 season in the Red V included career-highs in tackles (908), run metres (1,613), and offloads (23).
Dragons Head Coach Shane Flanagan paid tribute to Eisenhuth’s contribution to the club.
“Tom has been a wonderful asset to our team both on and off the field in his time here,” Flanagan said.
“Last year he was one of our most consistent players and never let anyone down.
“We’re all really disappointed that he’s had to finish up early but we understand at this stage of his career he has to put his health and his family first and we’ll continue to support him in whatever way we can as he continues to add value to the team and club in an off-field capacity moving forward.”
