St George District celebrates record junior registration numbers

The Dragons would like to congratulate the St George District Junior Rugby League for achieving record-breaking junior registration numbers this season.

Across all age groups, 1776 players have signed up to play in the St George District – a 14.2 per cent increase on 2024 – with registrations still open until June 30.

A major driver of this growth has been the significant uptake in the Under 6 to Under 10 age groups, as well as a surge in female participation.

Registrations for players aged 6-10 jumped from 399 to 541 – a 35.6 per cent increase – while female registrations are up by 29 per cent year-to-date.

This growth follows a major initiative introduced for the 2025 season: free registration and uniforms for all Under 6 to Under 10 players across the district.

The initiative was made possible through the generous investment of St George Leagues Club, in partnership with St George District Junior Rugby League and St George District Rugby League.

"It’s fantastic to see so many young boys and girls getting involved in the game," said St George District Rugby League Chairman Craig Young.

"The support from St George Leagues Club has been instrumental in helping us reach these milestones and foster a love for rugby league from an early age."

President of the Junior League, Leba Abihanna, added: "This season’s record numbers, particularly in our Under 6s to Under 10s, reflect the strength of our local clubs and the vital support from St George Leagues. It’s exciting to see what the future holds for our district."

St George’s player pathways are also thriving at the elite level; the SG Ball side broke a 32-year premiership drought in 2024, with standout Hurstville United junior Cyrus Stanley-Traill earning a pre-season spot with the Dragons’ NRL squad.

He joins fellow local juniors Luciano Leilua (Hurstville United), Hame Sele (Kingsgrove Colts), and Nick Tsougranis (Arncliffe Scots) in the club’s wider NRL setup – a reflection of the strong grassroots foundation being built in the district.
