Round 22 member of the match Mohamed Diab with Jayden Sullivan.

Member of the match: Round 22 v Sea Eagles

Mohamed Diab is a passionate, loyal 20-year supporter and family man who has spent many years leading the Dragons chants on the hill at Kogarah and remains the leader in stands at both WIN Stadium, Wollongong and Netstrata Jubilee Stadium, Kogarah.

St George Illawarra Dragons is embedded in the Diab family household; to say it is just a team for the Diab family is an understatement. Passion for the Dragons and footy is exponential and originally grew from young Mohamed tagging along with his dad to see his brother play in his 3rd grade footy clashes, followed by watching bone crunching and exhilarating NRL games at Jubilee Stadium.

“I have been a Dragon all my life, my brother played 3rd grade for them and there has never been another team,” he said.

“We used to go to the games as a family back in the day and continue to do so.”

A significant driving force behind the Diab’s passion and support for the Dragons as well as attending almost all the games, no matter the score or ladder position, is the notion of connection. Meeting up with mates due to the busyness of life and recognising members and friends who he hasn’t seen in a long time elevates the significance and excitement of game day during the week.

There is a connection between what Mohamed experienced as a youngster, watching his brother battle through injuries, demonstrating resilience and determination on and off the field as a 3rd grade player.

“It’s never just a game, its passion … it’s about the players who go out on that field and play, what it takes to earn a first-grade spot, it’s tough and should support no matter what. I saw how tough it was on my brother so I can relate,” he added.

When asked about his favourite player, Mohamed spoke incredibly highly of Jason Nightingale, who in his eyes still till this day represents himself in a positive manner on and off the field.

“I loved Brett Morris the way he played, his pace when he got the ball … Mark Gasnier and Jamie Soward as well but Jason Nightingale was an incredible player both on and off the field”

We thank you Mohamed for your continual dedication and passion for the Dragons!
