Dragons pathways: Round 5 wrap

All the results from round five of the NSWRL Junior Reps for the St George and Illawarra pathways sides.

The Dragons' Knock On Effect Cup and Jersey Flegg sides started their respective seasons with a bye, along with the NRL team.

UNE SG Ball Cup

Willie Talau's Dragons got one over his fellow NRL assistant coach Russ Aitken's Steelers at Netstrata Jubilee Stadium on Saturday. NRL train-and-triallist Dylan Egan got the Steelers on the board early and they went up 10-0 thanks to Te Umuariki Heremia-Tukere but from that point it was all the Dragons. Joven Gyemore (two), Jesse Williams, Shadi Hammoud and Nicholas Quinn combined for five tries between the 31st and 66th minutes to take control of the contest.

 Harvey Norman Women's Premiership

This was another St George v Illawarra affair at Kogarah, with the Steelers this time claiming the win as they racked up 40 points with plenty of NRLW stars on show. Jillaroo Keeley Davis scored the first of her two tries in just the second minute while Zali Yeo, Jade Etherden, Keele Browne, Olivia Vale, Taliah Fuimaono and Rose Tafengatoto also scored. Georgina Brooker nabbed a late consolation try for the Dragons.

UNE Harold Matthews Cup

Both the Dragons and the Steelers had the bye in round five.

Harvey Norman Tarsha Gale Cup

The third match in the Dragons v Steelers triple-header on Saturday also saw a big win for Illawarra. Doubles to Sulieti Ahio, Ella Fisher and Darcy Eade plus tries to Hope Millard, Taleisha Love, Mia-Rose Walsh underpinned the 46-0 result.

SLE Laurie Daley Cup

The Illawarra South Coast Dragons won a thriller at Camden's Kirkham Oval against the Macarthur Wests Tigers, scoring the final three tries of the match in a narrow 30-28 win. Toby Rumble answered the Tigers first-minute try just five minutes later while tries to Lincoln Miners and Samuel Kennedy kept the Dragons in it as the Tigers added four more. But from 28-16 down with half an hour to play, Kennedy's second and further four-pointers to Eden Hodges and Samson McAllister-Wood earned the win for the Dragons.

SLE Andrew Johns Cup

There was no such joy for the Illawarra SC Under-16s at Camden, despite Benjamin Askew and Zane Timmins scoring in the opening 10 minutes. Jake Talbott scored around five minutes before half time but the Dragons were on the wrong end of a 16-0 second half run from the Tigers as they went down 34-16.
