St George Illawarra Dragons National Youth Competition team prop Blake Lawrie concedes the team’s performance let them down following the 26-20 loss to the Sydney Roosters in the Preliminary Final at Allianz Stadium, Moore Park on Friday.
The local Dapto Canaries junior notes that despite a positive build-up to the fixture throughout the week the team were undone during certain periods of the game by their opposition.
The Young Dragons commanded a 14-0 lead heading into the interval but were undone by a team Lawrie admits played with greater intent.
“It was an unfortunate loss and I’m very disappointed as while it is footy, it was a do-or-die game,” said Lawrie.
“I’m really proud of all the boys and credit to the Roosters they came out during that second-half and really stuck it to us.
“The build-up to the game couldn’t have been better and we had three great sessions including the captain’s run.
“In patches we just couldn’t put it together and that’s what ultimately let us down.
“At halftime it was discussed to continue running hard and completing our sets but they came out and ran harder and tackled harder than we did.”
