The St George Illawarra Dragons have announced that second-rower Joel Thompson has officially agreed to terms on a two-year contract extension that will see him remain at the Club until at least the end of 2018.

The five-time NRL Indigenous All-Star representative has made 58 first-grade appearances to date with the Club and 147 NRL games in total.

The NSW Country Origin representative’s work in the greater community also earned him the Club’s ‘Dragons Community Involvement Award’ last season.

“I am really pleased to be able to continue my career here with the Dragons and it was an easy decision to make,” said Thompson.

“I have been with the Club for three seasons now and it’s great to be playing alongside a terrific bunch of guys and learning under the coaching staff.”

Director of Rugby League Pathways Ian Millward is happy with the decision made by the Forbes Magpies junior.

“Joel is a very hard-working player who lets his actions do the talking whenever he takes to the field,” said Millward.

“He is an important part of the playing group and everyone at the Club is pleased by his decision to remain for at least a further two seasons.”
