St George Illawarra Dragons centre Dylan Farrell attended an Indigenous youth meeting at the Commanders Active Citizen Project on Tuesday.
The Commanders Active Citizen Project is a Lake Illawarra Command initiative that promotes and encourages active interaction between Aboriginal Youth and the local Police.
The Police Aboriginal Consultative Committee (PACC) identifies Koori youth that demonstrate a potential “Future Voice” and an ability to advocate for positive change amongst Indigenous people.
Farrell discussed his story leading to his professional sports career and encouraged Indigenous youth to make good choices when pursuing their dreams.
“I knew I wanted to play footy professionally, so I worked hard and did everything I could to train well, be noticed and cement a place on the field,” said Farrell.
“I knew 10 other kids growing up from my area who were really talented footballers, but because of lack of support and poor decisions they took a different course in life.
“I was incredibly lucky to have supportive parents who encouraged me to follow my dreams and help me to get where I am.
“If you want to be the best you can be, you have to work hard and make the right choices to help you get there.”
