The New South Wales Government recently announced an intention to invest a minimum of $1.6 billion in ageing multi-sport venues in Sydney.

Furthermore, the Government are currently in negotiations with all major sporting bodies regarding content agreements to ensure that the stadia, undertaking major works over the next years, will be commercially viable.

The significant investment is an exciting proposition for New South Wales and Rugby League and the St George Illawarra Dragons believe the long-term perspective needs to be considered by all New South Wales clubs.

The Dragons have been briefed by the SCG Trust, ANZ Stadium and the NRL; the open discussions are ongoing with further detail to be shared and discussed.

No decisions have been finalised and any suggestions as to the specific numbers of games are speculation at this point in time.

The Dragons recognised a few years ago that Government investment in the larger stadia was to be the way of the future for Sydney and Rugby League and the implementation of the “Right Game Right Venue” strategy in 2013-14 fitted this as well.

We believe the Dragons have already made a significant commitment to such a strategy by relocating four home games against Sydney clubs.

The "Right Game Right Venue" strategy has yielded significant benefits for the Dragons and made growth in attendances possible through increased venue capacity for big Sydney clashes like ANZAC Day against the Sydny Roosters and Heritage Round against the South Sydney Rabbitohs.

We believe our strategy fits the objectives of Government and any further reduction in games at the Government owned Community venues in Kogarah and Wollongong would threaten their viability, which must be considered.

Our traditional communities and stadia are a part of the history and fabric of our Club and are a part of our future.

The Dragons are committed to providing updates with stakeholders at appropriate times throughout the discussions.
