St George Illawarra Dragons prop Leeson Ah Mau is working hard to even better himself after a banner season last campaign.

The Toa Samoa international was the lone player in the forward-pack to play all 25 fixtures for the Red-and-Whites last season which ultimately earned him the accolade of Club ‘Player of the Year’.

Ah Mau is aware that there is always room for improvement and has commenced improving his own under the tutelage of Assistant Coach Dean Young who oversees the team’s defensive structures.

“It’s been a pretty tough pre-season so far with all the coaching staff making the players work which is what it’s all about really,” said Ah Mau.

“All the players who play in that middle area are really buying into what Dean Young is teaching us and everyone is working hard not to let him down.

“My goal is to remain fit and wisely use this time of the year to keep improving myself.

“There are areas of my game that Dean, Paul McGregor and Ben Hornby have addressed which is what I am working on and hopefully that will show on the field next season.

“For me the stand-outs of the pre-season have been the younger players within the squad including Hame Sele who has stepped-up and is looking really good on the field.

“It is encouraging to see him as well as guys like Jacob Host ripping-in as it keeps us older players on our toes.”
