St George Illawarra Dragons Junior Representative player Dean Xenos recently donated prize money won from his involvement in the NSWRL Harold Matthews Cup relay on NRL Grand Final day to the Sydney Children’s Hospital.

The current St George Dragons SG Ball player, who was elevated an age group for the upcoming campaign from the Dragons Harold Matthews Cup squad, was part of a six-man Dragons team which won the U16 age category and were each awarded $400 prize money.

When informed of his prize winnings by his Harold Matthews Coaches Graeme Wynn and Michel Sorridimi, Xenos’ immediate response left the former Dragon’s greats speechless.

Sorridimi relates how Xenos’ immediate comment was: “Sorry, I didn’t even know there was any prize money.

“I was happy just to represent the Club and to be a part of the Grand Final celebrations.

Can I donate my money to the Sydney Children’s Hospital?”

And this is exactly what Xenos did when he visited Sydney Children’s Hospital recently to donate his entire prize winnings to the hospital.

Xenos’ only comment regarding his generous gesture was: “People often think Rugby League players are tough.

“These kids are way tougher than me, and if this donation helps them in any way that makes me really happy.”
