St George Illawarra Dragons five-eighth Gareth Widdop had a strong debut season in the Red V following what many considered being the buy of year.

Widdop played the full 80 minutes in all 26 games this season and managed to score points in all but two, against the Eels in Round 10 and the Panthers in Round 22.

He scored a total of 137 points, 73 points more than the next leading point scorer Jason Nightingale, which were made up of 61 conversions and three tries.

The English playmaker set up the most trys of any Dragon this year, with 16 try-assists to his name. Widdop also created the most line-breaks, as he sent his fellow Dragons across the line 14 times, and notched up the third most tackle-breaks with 54.

Widdop made the most attacking kicks by far; his foot met the ball a total of 215 times, kicking a distance of 5,427 metres.
