St George Illawarra Dragons National Youth Competition team captain Addin Fonua-Blake is keen to test himself against the New Zealand Warriors at Eden Park, Auckland, on Saturday.

The Mascot Jets junior says it has been an honour to be named captain of the Young Dragons for the season and hopes to lead by example both on and off the field.

The skipper is aware that the team needs to start the campaign on a positive footing and knows the entire team have been training hard ahead of the upcoming match.

“We’re really excited to get across to New Zealand, despite last weeks win, we still need to improve on a few areas of our game,” the prop said.

“It was a really good effort by the boys against the Tigers, we notched up a 46 to 14 victory, and so it was a great turn out from the boys.

“We spent the pre-season working hard on a few different things, and you could see that on the field out there.

“I was pretty nervous before the game, especially leading the boys out for the first time.

“I think we just need to remind everyone we’re not superstars, it doesn’t matter how many points you put up on the board, it’s important to control the game and don’t get too rushed.

“We know where we made a few errors last week and we are working on using the space and controlling the ball.”
