Dragons confirm Burgess signing

St George Illawarra have confirmed the signing of front-rower George Burgess following the completion of all necessary documentation.

Burgess will remain at the Dragons until at least the end of the 2023 NRL Telstra Premiership season.

Burgess has played 149 NRL games to date after eight seasons with the South Sydney Rabbitohs, including their premiership win in 2014.

The 29-year-old was released by Super League outfit Wigan in February after being ruled out for the season following major hip surgery.

St George Illawarra general manager of football Ben Haran said George's attributes as a player and standing in the game speak for itself.

"George will make a significant contribution to us here at the Dragons on and off the field; his experience and career achievements will only have a positive influence on the development of the younger players currently within our squad," Haran said.

"While he has some obstacles still to overcome following his well-documented surgery, our medical staff have already commenced working with George on his rehabilitation.

"Everyone is committed to helping George get back to his fighting best ahead of the 2022 season, but no person more than George himself. We're looking forward to him and his family joining the club."

The 15-time England international is the third high profile forward to commit to the Red V for the 2022 season and beyond, with Queensland Origin duo Francis Molo and Jaydn Su'A also set to join the club.
