Widdop admits he will be approaching the game like any other but is keen to link-up with several new teammates including the prop duo of Russell Packer and Dunamis Lui.
“The season is around the corner now and everyone is excited to a part of it,” said Widdop.
“It’s been a long and tough pre-season so we’ve been given a couple of days off to relax and get the body right before picking-up the intensity leading into the Storm game.
“As co-captain I will be trying to keep my approach to the game the same I normally would have in the past by leading by example through my actions.
“It’s a new responsibility for me but I’m looking forward to it.
“We also have a few new players within the squad and the guys in the forwards have impressed including Dunamis Lui and Russell Packer.
“They’ll both be good for us but in general everyone who has come here has a role to play.
“The game against the Storm will be important as we obviously want to start on the right note.”
