St George Illawarra Dragons centre Dylan Farrell is pleased to have played unscathed in the 14-12 win over the Mackay Cutters in the pre-season fixture at Mackay Stadium on Saturday.

The local Culburra Dolphins junior played 40 minutes in the hit-out against the Queensland Cup opposition playing at both three-quarters as well as briefly on the flanks.

Farrell, 23, is hoping the trial match can be used as a platform to build upon for the campaign ahead having been limited to only six first-grade appearances to date due to two pectoral muscle injuries last season.

"It was great for me personally to get back on the field and get some minutes after a disappointing season due to injury last year," said Farrell.

"It felt good to put the jersey back on and play alongside my teammates and simply do my role for the team.

"I think all the team benefited from the trial match and the Cutters were up for the game and kept it very competitive.

"There is a lot of competition for spots within the team this season so I will just have to continue working hard and ironing out any problems in my game."
