St George Illawarra Dragons National Youth Competition Co-Head Coach Dean Young has praised his young stalwarts ahead of the clash against the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks at Remondis Stadium, Cronulla on Saturday.

The Young Dragons are currently atop of the NYC ladder after two consecutive wins which included a 40-16 win over the New Zealand Warriors away last round.

The Red V suffered several minor set-backs throughout the match as a result of several injuries during the game but Young admits it is a true test of their character.

“The entire team are trying hard at the moment and we have some talent within the ranks so fortunately scoring isn’t an issue at the moment,” said Young.

“It was tough against the New Zealand Warriors with several injuries but fortunately all the boys dug deep to get the win in tough conditions.

“I just want to see all the players continue improving and come later in the year they may be rewarded by playing some reserve grade.

“We’re in a situation where it’s a fairly young side and we aren’t in any rush to rush them.”
