Illawarra Cutters second-rower Jimmy Grehan hopes to make inroads this season and certify a starting spot in 2013.
Grehan was a late addition to Head Coach Paul McGregor’s inaugural squad last season following a stint in Super League and tallied three tries from four outings for the Club.
The versatile player, who also played a spell as five-eighth, admits he is relishing this pre-season and competition for spots on offer from his teammates.
"Training has been great Mary's put us through our paces and we've varied things up with swimming wrestling weights and field work,” said Grehan.
"My preferred position this year is back row but I'll always put my hand up and fill in anywhere from hooker to five eighth."
"The reason for coming back to Australia was the homesickness, I Ioved playing in the Super League but missed family and friends a bit too much.
“I ended up playing with the Cutters after having a chat with Mary who has coached me for a couple of years and he said come along and a luckily a spot opened up for me.
"My goals for this year would be to try win the comp think we have the team to do it our first goal is to make the finals than go from there.
"A few guys have impressed me at training; Jake Hawkins our hooker, Matty Handcock from Queensland has looked good and we got another handful of guys who have come on a lot and have improved out of sight can't wait to see them play in the trials!
"We need to improve this year the start to the season so were not relying on a good run into the semis to make it but I'm sure Mary will have us all fired and ready to rumble round one!"
