St George Illawarra Dragons National Youth Competition team winger Reuben Garrick is resigned to cheering from the side-lines for the Preliminary Final fixture against the Sydney Roosters at Allianz Stadium, Moore Park on Friday.

The local Gerringong Lions junior is in the midst of his recovery from a season-ending knee injury sustained while representing the NSW U20 team earlier in the campaign.

The flanker has commenced his on-field rehabilitation in recent days with his eye firmly focused on the pre-season but before then has backed his teammates for the upcoming preliminary decider.

“Everyone in training has been great and on a positive note and fortunately no one really has any injuries,” said Garrick.

“I think the side is very strong and getting better with every training session towards the upcoming game.

“It’s been great in recent week having Izaac Thompson back from the NSW Cup and Paora Kemp has been outstanding too including scoring that hat trick in the last competition round against the Newcastle Knights.

“Both players have been going great guns and really just filling the void while proving to be assets to the team.

“For me personally it’s great to be back running and simply being out of the brace so I can stretch the legs a bit.

“It’s being tough for me being injury free for a lot of the season and then suffering a pretty big knee injury which essentially put me out for the season.

“It hurt a bit but it has given me enough time to get that bit bigger up to and giving me a perspective to see what is happening week-in and week-out from the side-lines.

“It will be good when I am able to get back out there with the boys as it makes you realise how much you do miss playing.

“I cannot wait for pre-season as I will be fully fit and raring to go.”
