The St George Illawarra Dragons were 25-24 winners over the Sydney Roosters at Allianz Stadium, Moore Park on Sunday.
The Young Dragons outscored the Roosters five tries to four, with a field goal to captain Patrick Herbert two minutes from time stealing the victory.
Head Coach Mat Head had opted to make the one late change prior to kick-off, with prop Jacob Host coming straight into the starting line-up in lieu of Jacob Esau who shifted to the interchange.
Dragons fullback Matt Dufty was the catalyst for the opening try of the match when he set Herbert off into the left corner in the 13th minute.
The Roosters though levelled the scores up 10 minutes later when halfback Jackson Hastings managed a pass away to second-rower Reuben Porter, who went over untouched.
Hastings converted the try to make it 6-4.
The Roosters pivot soon managed his second try assist minutess later, this time putting fullback Kiah Cooper over for a 10-4 lead.
Hastings converted the try to extend the lead to 12-4.
The visitors though narrowed the margin with eight minutes left in the half, with centre Izaac Thompson barging his way over from close range to bring the margin back to four points.
Dragons five-eighth Jai Field converted the try to make it 12-10.
The Dragons regained the lead through halfback Jack Payne after the interval when the pivot threw a dummy before breaking through the home side's line to score left of the upright.
Field added the extras to make it 16-12.
Dragons hooker Reece Robson later made a break straight up the middle to set up a two-on-one before putting Field over under the posts.
The five-eighth converted again to make it 20-12.
The home side however pegged the margin back when winger Bernard Lewis went in untouched in the left corner with 25 minutes remaining.
Hastings converted the try to peg the margin back to two points.
The visitors though reclaimed a six-point buffer when Thompson bagged his second try of the match in the 68th minute.
Hastings however levelled the scores up shortly after, when he put in a grubber for himself, before subsequently converting his own try three minutes later.
Yet, with less than two minutes remaining, Herbert nailed a field goal from 40 metres out to claim the win for the Dragons.
