Description –

The St George Illawarra Dragons were defeated 36-6 by the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles at Brookvale Oval on Monday.

The Red-and-Whites struggled to assert themselves in attack with only fullback Josh Dugan gettig on the scoresheet.

Head Coach Paul McGregor had named an unchanged line-up to that announced previously midweek which meant second-rower Will Matthews dropped off the extended interchange bench.

Unfortunately, it was the Sea Eagles who opened the scoring with captain Jamie Lyon opting to take the two points on offer after hooker Mitch Rein was penalised close to the Dragons line.

The Sea Eagles extended their lead 15 minutes later, when hooker Apisai Koroisau put in a grubber kick out of dummy half for unmarked second-rower Nathan Green to score.

Lyon converted the try and gave his team an 8-0 lead.

The home side added to their lead two minutes later when centre Dylan Walker got on the scoresheet and made it 12-0.

The Sea Eagles scored an additional two tries prior to the interval with winger Jorge Taufua getting his name on the scoresheet before Walker notched his second of the fixture.

Lyon converted one of his three attempts to make it 22-0.

The scoring continued for the hosts after the interval with Taufua notching his own double in the 52nd minute.

This was followed-up by Sea Eagles second-rower Jamie Buhrer pacing 90-metres of the field to slide across the line.

Lyon converted to make it 32-0.

Fortunately, the Dragons rallied to score minutes from time when Dugan gathered an inside ball by five-eighth Gareth Widdop to cross the stripe untouched.

Widdop's conversion made it 32-6.

Unfortunately, Sea Eagles winger Brayden Wiliame got in on the scoring action to do just that on the left wing to ultimately make it 36-6.

St George Illawarra Dragons 6. Tries: Dugan. Goals: Widdop (1/1).

Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles 36. Tries: Taufua (2), Walker (2), Green, Buhrer, Wiliame. Goals: Lyon (3/6), Walker (0/1). Penalty Goals: Jamie Lyon (1/1).
