St George Illawarra Dragons fullback Josh Dugan has been ruled out due to an elbow injury from the NSW Blues State of Origin squad.

Dugan, capped 8 times for the Blues, had been named in the centres for the first fixture against the Queensland Maroons at ANZ Stadium, Olympic Park on Wednesday.

"I aggravated my elbow at training on Saturday," said Dugan.

"It's very disappointing but I had to do what was best for the team."

Blues Head Coach Laurie Daley has named Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs centre Josh Morris as the player to slot into the vacated position.

"It's a setback, but we're lucky we've got a guy like Josh Morris who was with us for a couple of days early in the camp."
