St George Illawarra Dragons National Youth Competition team captain Patrick Herbert is keen for the team to test themselves against the New Zealand Warriors at Mt Smart Stadium, Auckland on Sunday.

The Young Dragons were 38-26 victors over the Sydney Roosters in their previous fixture, contested on ANZAC Day, and will hit the road for their fourth away match in five outings.

Herbert, a Tamaki Rugby Club junior, admits the team are keen to return to normality with less travel following this game but admit they are ready to face one of the competition’s heavyweights.

“It was a great feeling to have the opportunity to play on ANZAC Day and all the fans got behind us,” said Herbert.

“Credit to the Roosters who game with the A-game but we held on to get the result and it was just a good game of football.

“It was good to play again locally after having our last three games interstate in Queensland which was pretty hard on us.

“We had been playing the same day we had travelled so it was good just to be organised and have the right preparation.

“We head to face the Warriors next round which will be tough, especially on their home patch but it’s something we need to get on and do.

“They have some large and talented players across the park so it will be good for the boys to test themselves against a traditionally tough opposition.

“The boys know that after that we don’t have to travel as far for the remainder of the season which again will help us prepare and focus on our own game.”
