The St George Illawarra Dragons have made one change to their team for the upcoming pre-season trial fixture against the Wynnum-Manly Seagulls at Pinklands Oval, Redlands on Saturday.

To Samoa international Peter Mata’utia has been named in the centres for the upcoming fixture having originally been part of the NRL Auckland Nines squad.

Furthermore, the Dragons will be joined by several members of the National Youth Competition squad including local juniors Izaac Thompson, Hame Sele and Luciana Leilua as well as Patrick Herbert.

Additionally, several members of the Illawarra Cutters have also been included for the trial with Shaun Nona being named at halfback and teammates Blake Wallace, Chris Lewis, Corey Brown, Sam Coster, Damien Sironen, Shannon Wakeman and Eric Newbigging all named on an extended interchange.

“We have a squad of 24 players including some junior coming through the ranks of the National Youth Competition system so we had to make sure we had a formidable pack to face the Seagulls,” said Dragons Head Coach Paul McGregror.

“We believe we have come up with the right mix for this trial and we want to present ourselves well at Wynnum-Manly to get ourselves ready for the following week when we play the Charity Shield.

“The most important thing at this time of the year is getting your cohesion right in time for the opening round of the season.”
