The St George Illawarra Dragons announced on Thursday that National Youth Competition team graduate Tom Carr has agreed to terms on a one-year contract until at least the end of 2016.

The local Helensburgh Tigers junior played 12 games on the wing for the NYC team in 2015 was the top try-scorer for the Young Dragons amassing 17 tries for the season.

Carr, 20, will join the NRL full-time squad in the off-season and is looking forward to his continued development under Head Coach Paul McGregor.

“I am very pleased to have been given such a great opportunity to take the next step in my playing career here at my childhood Club,” said Carr.

“I am aware of the challenges that lie ahead for me and am focused on learning everything I can throughout the pre-season under the guidance of Head Coach Paul McGregor and his coaching staff.”

Dragons Director of Recruitment and Retention Peter Mulholland is pleased by the local junior’s decision to continue his education with the Club.

“Tom is a talented local junior who recently finished the season as the highest try-scorer within our NYC team,” said Mulholland.

“We are pleased that he has opted to further his development here at the Club and we look forward to watching him come into his own during the pre-season.”
