The St George Illawarra Dragons announced on Monday that Tyrone McCarthy has agreed to terms on a two-year contract that will see him join the Club from next season until at least the end of 2017.

The Ireland international lock-forward, who can also play in the second-row and was named vice-captain of the Wolfhounds during their 2013 World Cup campaign, is presently contracted to Super League Hull-Kingston Rovers.

McCarthy, 27, made his first-grade debut for the Warrington Wolves during the 2009 campaign before joining the Northern Pride (2014) and Hull KR (2015).

“Tyrone is a versatile player who has shown a keen interest in testing himself at the highest level in the NRL competition,” said Dragons Director of Recruitment & Retention Peter Mulholland.

“He has established himself in the Super League competition and has a sound understanding of what is required to compete in the NRL from his time playing for the Northern Pride in the Queensland Cup.

“We look forward to welcoming him to the Club during the off-season.”

McCarthy has won two Challenge Cup titles whilst with the Wolves (2009, 2012) and has played 72 first-grade games to date (Super League).

He will join the Dragons in November.
