The NRL and club CEOs have met to discuss a range of issues in the lead up to the 2015 Telstra Finals Series.

The NRL gave an overview of preparations for the Final Series and Grand Final.

A feature of this year’s celebrations will be the creation of a new fan attraction, known as NRL Nation, at Darling Harbour where supporters will be able to meet some of their favourite players from all 16 clubs in the lead up to the Grand Final.

The NRL will also implement a new incentive scheme to encourage clubs to be more involved in the marketing of the Finals to draw bigger crowds.

The Head of the Rugby League World Cup, Michael Brown outlined his vison for the event which will be held in Australia and New Zealand in 2017.

Much of the initial focus will be on community engagement to build up excitement and support for the World Cup.

The meeting also discussed:

  • An overview of the recent free to air television rights agreement with Channel 9

  • An update on the current negotiations with the State Government for improved stadia facilities in NSW and Queensland

  • A discussion on third party agreements

  • Progress on a shared services arrangement between the NRL and clubs aimed at identifying efficiencies for all parties

NRL CEO Dave Smith said the game was in a strong position leading into the Finals series.

“As we go into the last round, we still do not know the makeup of the Finals – that is how close it is,” said Smith.

“So we are on track for a successful Finals series – and beyond.”
