St George Illawarra Dragons winger Jason Nightingale insists the team needs to start building momentum commencing against Wests Tigers at ANZ Stadium, Olympic Park on Saturday.

The Red-and-Whites require two-competition points to make reaching the Finals Series a certainty without having to rely on external factors to result in their favour.

The New Zealand international, who has overcome a minor ankle strain in recent weeks, notes that the team must learn from their narrow 28-26 loss to the Gold Coast Titans last round if they are to succeed where it matters.

“It was very disappointing that we didn’t get the win against the Titans,” said Nightingale.

“We completed high in the first-half of the game and were rolling through them quite easily but in that second-half they really came at us hard.

“We ultimately made a few errors which kept them in it and we weren’t desperate enough to stop them.

“I pulled through the game but would have liked to have made more of an impact in it as I came up with a couple of poor defensive errors.

“On a positive though I came through fine and looking forward to getting out there again against the Tigers.

“Every week that you get back from injury you become that little bit better and gain that little bit more confidence and I’ll be making sure to help out the boys more.

“We’re focusing on ourselves this week and working on what we need to do to reach the Finals Series.

“That naturally starts with getting a win against the Tigers as we need to start building momentum as going in there without it could mean we go out the back door.”
