The 2014 New Zealand Maori squad representative has featured predominantly for the Illawarra Cutters this season whilst still training the first-grade team and admits he has relished every moment thus far.

Nutira, 25, has also previously featured for both the Parramatta Eels (2008-09) and Melbourne Storm (2010) in the National Youth Competition but admits his ultimate aim  as a player is to someday compete in first-grade.

“I have enjoyed my time rubbing shoulders with all the players within the first-grade squad as they are all pretty inspiring,” said Nutira.

“It’s a team sport so we do everything together as a squad and there is a “big boys” crew led by George Rose some of us are a part of.

“Everyone’s dream is to someday play first-grade but at the moment I am playing weekly for the Illawarra Cutters and know that if I play well continuously that my chance might come.

“Playing with the Cutters allows me to still play alongside seven or eight first-graders regularly and the competition as a whole is very strong.

“I believe it is the next best competition after of course the NRL and it is tough as you need to be on your game every week.”
