St George Illawarra Dragons fullback Josh Dugan is pleased to be back in the custodian’s role for the NSW Blues in their opening State of Origin fixture against the Queensland Maroons at ANZ Stadium, Olympic Park on Wednesday.
The NSW Blues representative featured in the three-quarters position in last season’s corresponding series but is glad to back in his more familiar role.
Dugan is poised to make his sixth appearance for his state after being named alongside teammate Trent Merrin in Head Coach Laurie Daley’s team.
Fellow teammate Tyson Frizell has additionally bene called into NSW camp.
“I am proud to be part of this team and having the opportunity to help defend our title,” said Dugan.
“The fullback role is my position so it has been good being back there for the Dragons and now for NSW.
“I enjoyed the chance to train once again in Coffs Harbour with all the players as its good to get away from the fishbowl of Sunday.
“It’s goof being in camp as everyone is here for a reason and playing good footy for their respective clubs.
“Training was very full-on in the initial days of camp but we are now heading into the business end of things but come kick-off it’s all about doing your best for state and teammates.
“Trent and Tyson have both settled in well to camp, especially Tyson as it is his first time in this environment and hopefully it won’t be his last.”
