St George Illawarra Dragons National Youth Competition team Head Coach Ben Hornby is proud to have been named NRL All-Stars Assistant Coach.

The Dragons most-capped first-grade player believes the experience will benefit his own post-career coaching aspirations having been personally appointed by NRL All-Stars Head Coach Wayne Bennett.

Dragons lock Trent Merrin has been named in the NRL All-Stars team to compete against their Indigenous counterparts at Cbus Super Stadium, Robina on Friday, February 13.

“Wayne rang me up during the off-season to ask if I would be interested in being a part of the coaching staff,” said Hornby.

“I discussed this further with Paul McGregor who encouraged me to make the most of the opportunity and I’m looking forward to it.

“Getting difference experiences working under different coaches is only going to benefit my development as a coach and I’m thankful for this chance.

“I hope to try and take in as much as I can from the entire week in camp.

“It is a strong team which has been selected for the match and I know the players will all be taking it seriously.”
