"The 2015 schedule reflects the Clubs, the NRL and Broadcasters working together to give Members, Corporate Partners and supporters as much consideration as possible, acknowledging the complexity of the process,” said Dragons CEO Peter Doust.
“Delivering an outcome that meets everyone’s expectations is difficult, but we believe we have scheduled appropriate balance across our season and venues, given all the variables, including venue availability.
“Fox Sports were very keen to see us launch our season on Monday Night Football at Jubilee Oval in Kogarah, and it has been 11 years since we have played a season opener in Kogarah.
“Our decision to support the Whole of Game Strategy through Right Game Right Venue in 2014 saw our overall crowd average increase from 12,000 to 16,000, with all four games at the major venues attracting larger crowds than what we would have been able to accommodate in our suburban venues.
“Continuing to develop these marquee events is important to the growth and long-term future of the Dragons.”
NRL Head of Commercial Paul Kind said the Dragons games would be played at the venue that best suited the match-up as part of the Right Game Right Venue approach.
“The Dragons have some blockbuster games at ANZ Stadium against traditional rivals as well as some great matches at both Jubilee Oval and WIN Stadium,” said Kind.
“And there is the historic match in Round 19 at the SCG against South Sydney, which celebrates the 50 year anniversary of the 1965 Grand Final.
“These games include some of the best match-ups of the season and we expect them to be popular for both home and away Sydney teams.
“That’s why our aim is to match the right game with the right venue so that we can provide as many fans as possible with the opportunity to watch their team.”
The NRL and Broadcast Partners Channel 9 and Fox Sports have agreed that the specific scheduling for the final six rounds of the 2015 season will be announced later in the season.
