Brett Morris admitted that his decision to request a formal release to reunite with his brother had been on his mind for quite some time.

The Kiama Knights junior was today officially granted the early release following an approach by Morris and his management to the Club to join the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs long-term next season.

Dragons Grant Brett Morris Release

Morris has expressed his gratitude to everyone who has supported him during his career at the Club including both the teammates he will be leaving behind and the Red V Members and supporters.

“I think most people know how much I enjoy playing rugby league with Josh," said Morris.

“We played our whole career together as juniors and growing up through the system we always thought we would play together our entire career.

“Obviously with the years apart, the desire to play alongside him week-in and week-out has grown bigger.

“I tried many times to try and get Josh over to the Dragons but things never worked out that way and I suppose when we missed out on picking-up Josh I sort of knew this day was probably going to happen.

Head Coach Paul McGregor discusses his reaction to Brett Morris' decision to request an early release

“It was very difficult as I’ve played a lot of footy with a lot of these guys, some of which I’ve played my whole career besides.

“It’s always hard when you have plenty of close mates around to tell them the news but they’re all very supportive.

“Everyone has their own personalities and this group of guys really get along and I’ll miss seeing their faces every day.

“Red V fans are some of the most loyal fans in the game and have supported me my whole career so to play in different colours is going to be hard for them and hard for me but it’s the decision I’ve made.

“There are players coming through the grades and other players around that will probably come in and take that spot I was in and they will make it their own.”
