The St George Illawarra Dragons were defeated 30-22 by the Brisbane Broncos at Suncorp Stadium, Brisbane on Friday.

The game was much closer than the scoreboard showed, with both sides sharing 50% possession each, and the Broncos (1325m) only running three more metres than the Dragons (1322m) during the entire game.

Dragon’s winger Jason Nightingale scored his 16th try of the season, and his fourth from the past three games.

Broncos winger Daniel Vidot made the most metres with 188m, followed by Brisbane prop Corey Parker with 169m, and Dragons second-rower Joel Thompson with 161 metres.

Thompson played well, also scoring a try, making two line-breaks, a try assist and tackle break.

Brisbane hooker Andrew McCullough 52 tackles with fellow Brisbane prop Josh McGuire making 38, and Dragon’s hooker Mitch Rein making 39.

Dragon’s halfback Benji Marshall created the most offloads of the game with four, followed by his five-eighth Gareth Widdop with three, and fullback Gerard Beale, winger Jason Nightingale, and lock Trent Merrin all making two.

Marshall kept busy with three tackle breaks, a try assist and a line break.
