St George Illawarra Dragons winger Brett Morris is confident the Red V has what it takes to overcome an in-form Wests Tigers squad when they clash at ANZ Stadium, Sydney Olympic Park on Sunday.
The NSW State of Origin representative is conscious of where the team lost focus but believes they can work through their mistakes before facing their opposition.
The 27-year-old is relishing the opportunity to be trained under Head Coach Paul McGregor and believes he is facilitating a new generation of Red-and-Whites.
“It’s definitely that time of the season where it’s make or break for the finals run,” said Morris.
“If we want to be the best we have to beat the best and we’re coming up against some really good sides on our way to the finals.
“We have a bit of improvement that we need to work on but Monday was a good test to see where we’re at.
“The boys will work on a few things with Paul McGregor over the week to try and get that win on Sunday.
“We lost our way in the second half and I think that was due to attitude and things like that are easily fixed.
“We got a bit fatigued and let those little things creep into our game which is something that hasn’t happened in the last few weeks, but it’s not too hard to fix.
“I think Mary is a great coach; he’s very upfront about things and he knows how to get the best out of his players.
“He doesn’t sugarcoat anything and, as a footballer, that’s what we need; we need to be challenged.
“He definitely has the boys’ respect and I think he is doing a great job so far.
“I think there’s a new era at the Dragons; we have a few experienced guys but they’re still young.
“Mary was very involved with us when Price was still coaching and now at Head Coach he as a bit more input with us.
“I can’t fault his coaching; he’s passionate about the club and he wants to see us succeed.”
