St George Illawarra Dragons lock Tyson Frizell has undergone surgery to his ankle and is expected to be ruled out for up to eight weeks.

The Corrimal Cougars junior previously underwent scans to determine the extent of the high-ankle sprain injury sustained early on in the fixture against the Penrith Panthers at Sportingbet Stadium, Penrith on Saturday.

“Tyson had scans earlier in the week before having a specialist’s opinion as well and unfortunately the damage in his ankle has warranted an arthroscope,” said Dragons Performance Director Andrew Gray.

“He is having surgery to stabilise the syndesmosis of his ankle and we’re expecting for him to be out for an upwards of eight weeks.

“We expect to have him up on his feet and moving around again in four weeks’ time and from there it will be based on how he responds to his rehabilitation.

“It is disappointing news for both Tyson on a personal level as well as the Club.”
